Dr. Abu Al-Qasim Abdul Fattah Al-Akhdar and Mr. Adel Suleiman Arafa, members of the editorial board of the Shorus Scientific Journal, participated today, Monday, August 4, 2025, in an important scientific workshop via Zoom, titled "Arab Impact Factor: Classification Rules for Arab Journals." This prestigious workshop was organized by the Arab Universities Union and witnessed attendance and interest from the academic community in the region.
The participation of Dr. Al-Akhdar and Professor Aref aims to highlight the importance of the Shros Scientific Journal and its commitment to international academic standards, as well as its ongoing efforts to improve the quality of the research published in it.
Workshop Topics and Their Importance
The workshop, presented by Professor Dr. Mahmoud Abdel Aati, founder and director of the Arab Impact Factor Project at Sohag University in Egypt and vice president of the African Academy of Sciences in Nairobi, Kenya, discussed several vital topics that are central to advancing Arab scientific research:
• Introduction to the Arab Impact Factor: The workshop addressed the concept of the Arab Impact Factor as a tool for evaluating and classifying scientific journals based on the extent of their impact and the significance of the research published in them.
• Mechanism for calculating the impact factor: The methods and methodologies used to calculate this factor have been reviewed, providing a clear understanding of the quantitative criteria that affect journal rankings.
• The basic criteria for journal classification: The workshop focused on the qualitative and quantitative criteria that Arab journals must meet to achieve advanced rankings.
• How classification affects the quality of research and publication: The direct relationship between journal ranking and the quality of the research published in them has been highlighted, and how classification can contribute to raising the level of scientific publishing.
• The role of the Arab impact factor in overcoming obstacles to obtaining global rankings: The workshop explored how the Arab impact factor can serve as a bridge to pave the way for Arab journals to gain recognition and classification in global forums.
• How to Encourage Journals to Publish Leading Research: Recommendations and strategies have been presented to encourage journals to attract and publish innovative and leading research that contributes to the advancement of knowledge.
This workshop is considered an important step towards enhancing the status of Arabic scientific journals, improving the quality of the research published in them, and paving the way for their global recognition.
