The "Mujahid Khalifa bin Askar" hall in Nalut witnessed a joyful celebration on Tuesday morning, July 29, 2025, marking the thirtieth anniversary of the establishment of the Faculty of Education in Nalut and the graduation of its twenty-seventh batch under the slogan "30 Years of Continuous Giving." This occasion embodied a journey filled with achievements and educational contributions that have contributed to the renaissance of Libyan society in general, and the city of Nalut in particular. The Higher Institute for Teacher Preparation in Nalut, now known as the Faculty of Education, was established in the academic year 1995/1996 thanks to the blessed efforts of leading figures, namely: Mr. Youssef Ali Al-Muqadimi (the Secretary of Education in Nalut at the time), Mr. Ali Khalifa Al-Bashbash (the Secretary of the People's Committee in Nalut during that period - may he rest in peace), and Mr. Ramadan Youssef Askar, who coordinated and collaborated with the General People's Committee for Higher Education previously. The institute was established under decision number (69) of the year 1996, and it continued in this status until January 1, 2005, when the system of affiliation changed, making all higher institutes for teacher preparation in the region affiliated with the University of the Western Mountain, under the name "Teachers' College in Nalut." In 2006, the name of the college changed to "Faculty of Education," which we know today, and the college follows a four-year academic system.
The study at the institute began in the academic year 1995/1996 under the administration of Professor Ramadan Youssef Askar (1995-2000), while Professor Mousa Khalifa Al-Nami held the position of registrar. A distinguished group of academics has succeeded in managing the college, including:
Dr. Nagy Mohammed Bazina (2000-2004)
Mr. Yahya Masoud Jarnaz (2004-2011)
Dr. Jamal Ali Mataawe (2011-27 July 2024)
Mr. Riad Suleiman Jurnaz (starting from July 28, 2024, to date)
The College of Education in Nalut has become a scientific beacon that has contributed to the education sector by providing qualified personnel, leaving a clear mark on the path of development and progress. The celebration was not limited to the graduation of the new batch, but included a series of events aimed at honoring and appreciating everyone who contributed to the college's journey and the success of its students. The event also saw the participation of the parents of the graduating students, a large number of faculty members, and several invited guests, which added a special charm and distinguished presence to the celebration.
On the sidelines of the celebration, awards of appreciation were presented to the university president, the vice president for academic affairs, and the secretary general, in recognition of their efforts and continuous support for the college. Founders, both living and deceased, were also honored in acknowledgment of their pioneering efforts in laying the foundation for this prestigious college.
