Dr. Nagy Al-Hadi Aburas, the director of the Scientific Research and Consulting Center at Nalut University, participated in a workshop held on Monday, July 15, 2024, at the Industrial Research Center in Tajoura, titled "Challenges Facing the Packaging Sector in Libya," under the slogan "Industry – Quality – Safety – Security." During the workshop, Dr. Aburas presented a lecture titled "Nanotechnology and Its Applications in Food Packaging: Enhancing Food Safety and Monitoring Its Safety."
The workshop was organized by the National Industrial Development Authority in collaboration with the Industrial Research Center and the Libyan Export Development Center under the supervision and sponsorship of the Ministry of Industry and Minerals.
The workshop was inaugurated by Engineer Muftah Aqilah Al-Sanousi, Chairman of the National Industry Development Authority, who welcomed the attendees and emphasized the importance of the packaging sector and its role in advancing local industry. He pointed out that the authority gives significant attention to this sector.
The workshop was attended by a number of board chairpersons, general managers of several institutions, a select group of consultants and specialists, a variety of interested individuals, and representatives from some national companies operating in the field of packaging.
The workshop addressed many specific aspects of packaging and its importance to the industrial sector and some other sectors by presenting nine scientific lectures that highlight the most important modern technologies in the field of packaging and the latest specifications approved locally and internationally in this field, which are intended to improve the quality and competitiveness of national products.
The workshop discussed the difficulties facing the export operations of certain national products due to the lack of packaging that meets internationally approved specifications and standards.
Several recommendations emerged from the workshop, the most important of which were: –
• Establishing a packaging and filling center that keeps up with developments and the latest technologies used in this field, while also monitoring and improving the quality of the containers used for packaging national products.
• Developing the human resources working in the packaging sector through training on the latest technologies used globally.
• Support and encourage national factories and companies operating in the field of packaging that produce containers compliant with local and international specifications and environmentally friendly by applying cleaner production techniques.
